The Good Life Construction Story

May 8, 2026

Good Life Construction was built on more than skill and experience—it was built on faith, sacrifice, hard work, and a deep commitment to serving others. Founder Dmitriy Tupikov’s journey began long before the company was established, shaped by a childhood in Ukraine, a refugee family’s pursuit of freedom in America, and years of learning the value of excellence, responsibility, and care for people. What started as a desire to help others through honest work gradually grew into a trusted construction company known for its strong reputation, loyal team, and customer-first values.

Q: Dmitriy, can you tell us a little about your background?

I was born in 1989 in Vinnytsya, Ukraine, during the final years of the Soviet Union. I grew up in a Christian family, and because of our faith, my parents were often treated as outsiders. Even as a child, I remember experiencing rejection and being looked down on because of the values my family held.

At the same time, those early years shaped who I am. I learned faith, resilience, humility, and the importance of hard work. I also spent many summers in the village with relatives who worked on farms, cared for animals, and lived very close to the land. That’s where I first learned responsibility and what it means to work hard every day.

Q: How did your family end up coming to the United States?

My parents came to America as refugees in search of freedom and a better future for our family. They left behind everything they had built and came here with very little, but with a strong work ethic and a deep commitment to doing what was right.

When we arrived in Sacramento, California, I watched my parents work incredibly hard. My father went to work right away. My mother pursued training and built a career in healthcare. Even when life was difficult, they were generous, faithful, and always willing to help others. Watching them shaped the way I saw work, people, and responsibility.

Q: What was it like adjusting to life in America?

It was not easy at first. I moved to the United States when I was nine years old and started school without knowing English. My first year was very difficult academically, except for math. But I saw how hard my parents were working to build a better life, and that motivated me.

By the next year, I had improved dramatically in school and became one of the top students. That experience taught me something I still believe today: if you are willing to work hard, stay humble, and keep learning, you can overcome almost anything.

Q: When did you first start working?

I started working young. At 14, I was washing windows during the summer and working nights at a pizza place. I loved working. I loved solving problems, taking responsibility, and helping things run better. Even at that age, I was being trusted with leadership tasks like scheduling, inventory, and helping manage teams.

That early experience taught me that work is not just about making money. It is about being dependable, taking initiative, and creating value for other people.

Q: How did you get into construction?

When I was 15, my father took me with him to help on a remodeling job. His boss saw me working and offered me an opportunity in construction. I took it immediately because I saw it as a chance to learn a real trade and build something meaningful.

From there, I moved up quickly. I worked under great supervisors, learned different trades, and took on more responsibility every year. By my mid-teens, I was already leading crews on major jobs. Later, I became a licensed inspector and gained even more experience in the industry.

Construction became more than a job to me. It became a way to solve problems, serve people, and create something lasting.

Q: Did you always plan to start Good Life Construction?

Honestly, no. I did not sit down with a big business plan and say, “I’m going to start a company.” It happened naturally.

After helping with a church construction project, I started doing side jobs to support myself. One job led to another. People referred me to friends and family. The more work I did, the more opportunities came in. I realized that when you do good work, treat people right, and keep your word, people remember that.

So Good Life Construction was not really born out of ambition for success. It was born out of service, hard work, and a desire to help people.

Q: What was the foundation of the company in those early years?

The foundation was reputation. We started during a difficult time economically, right after the 2008 crash, when work was hard to find and pay was low. But I always believed that even if a job was small, or even if the profit was not great, it still mattered how we did it.

I wanted every customer to feel respected. I wanted every project to reflect excellence. I wanted people to know that we cared.

Looking back, I learned an important lesson: when you work for your reputation, eventually your reputation starts working for you.

Q: What made your company culture different?

From the beginning, I never looked at people as just employees. I often hired people who needed an opportunity, and I wanted to help them succeed. I treated them more like friends and teammates than workers.

Without fully realizing it at the time, that created a culture of care, loyalty, and excellence. People felt valued. They invited others to join the team. We built something that was about more than construction. It was about giving people a place to grow, contribute, and be part of something meaningful.

Q: How did your family become part of the business?

A couple of years into the business, I invited my father to join me. He had carried our family through so many hard seasons, and I wanted to create a future where he could lean on me the same way I had leaned on him growing up.

Later, my younger brother became part of the company as well. Working as a family has its challenges, of course, but it has also been a blessing. It has kept us grounded in our values and reminded us that business is ultimately about people, trust, and love.

Q: What do you believe customers should know about Good Life Construction today?

I want customers to know that this company was built on service first. We did not start with the goal of just making money. We started with the goal of helping people, doing honest work, and treating others with care.

That still defines us today. We want our clients to feel heard, respected, and confident in the work we do. We want them to know that their project matters to us and that we take pride in doing things the right way.

Over the years, we have made mistakes and faced challenges like any business. But we have always tried to make things right, learn from every failure, and keep growing. That commitment matters to us.

Q: So, in one sentence, why did you start Good Life Construction?

I started Good Life Construction by simply using the gifts God gave me to serve and love the people around me—and over time, that service grew into a business with a strong reputation, great clients, and a meaningful purpose.

Q: What does “the Good Life” mean to you?

To me, the good life is not just about success or money. It is about living with purpose, serving others, working with excellence, staying humble, and building something that genuinely helps people. That is the kind of life we believe in, and that is the kind of company we want to be.

Conclusion

The history of Good Life Construction is ultimately a story of faith, perseverance, hard work, and service. What began through the life journey of Dmitriy Tupikov—from humble beginnings in Ukraine to building a new future in America—grew into a company founded on integrity, excellence, and genuine care for others. Over the years, Good Life Construction has become more than a construction business; it has become a reflection of the values that shaped it from the beginning. By putting people first, honoring relationships, and striving to do every job with purpose and quality, Good Life continues to build not only homes and projects, but trust, reputation, and lasting impact.
